MEKARN Conference 2010
One on-farm trial was carried out in farmersí households of Phung Hiep district, Hau Giang Province of Vietnam to evaluate different treatments of pig manure to produce compost. It was a complete randomized design with 3 treatments and 3 replicates. The treatments were pig manure, straw and Trichoderma fungi under aerobic condition; pig manure and straw under aerobic condition; pig manure and straw under anaerobic composting.
The results showed that the temperature of all composted batches were over 50 oC, which could eliminate different disease organisms and parasite eggs. Eggs of Ascaris suum were killed 100% after 6 weeks of composting and numbers of Coliform and E.Coli in the treatments were reduced; Coliform numbers were 313 x 106 before and 0,051 x 106 after 6 weeks; E. Coli were 162 x 106 and 0,003 x 106 before and after 6 weeks, respectively. The conclusion was that using the composts from the different treatment strategies could be safe for crops and humans with better environmental impact.
